2.5l na with 85,xxx miles, girlfriend's owned it since about 30-40,000. It's had whatever I got on sale 0w20 since she bought it.
Right now it's got super tech 0w20 and a fram tough guard.
I change it every 5k.
I know you can't see a lot but I'm happy with how clean it looks.

Clean engine and I like your “whatever is on sale” strategy.
Any other info you can share, i.e., highway/city driving, long/short trips, etc…
Mazda makes great engines.
It's our gas saver, so we use it a lot. Driving across town to eat, get a few groceries, but also driving it when we go on vacation. It's mostly around town.
She drives like 5ish miles to work m-f.
I have the oil change reminder set at 5,500 miles, and the light comes on a few hundred miles before that, so she just tells me when that kicks on.

I like the idea of being able to set up your MM parameters. Very cool!

If you're curious about the internals, the YouTube channel 'I do cars' did a teardown on a low-mileage 2.5L. I was excited he finally got one; I've been curious about the internals of my CX5 since I bought it in 2020.

I'm not surprised that the internals look clean through the fill hole, they seem to be well-thought-out engines.

Agreed! Wish I could do that in my truck.
Depending on the feature set, the reminder screen is very annoying; shows up every time you start the car. If I wasn't already a poster here it would definitely annoy me into getting the oil change done every 5k. (Or learning how to reset the screen myself. ;) )

I watched this a while ago. I don't recall if they ever really found the cause of the engine failure?

I don’t think it was mentioned in the video. But it was a cracked cylinder head, if you watch the video when he is examining the exhaust side of the cylinder head, you can see an external crack through the head and into the exhaust port.

Thanks. This is not common at all on these engines. Maybe a factory defect in casting or something?

I wouldn’t call it common, but it definitely happens more on the cylinder deactivation variant of the engine. I didn’t look close enough to see if the engine being tore down had cylinder deactivation. While no one except Mazda truly knows the cause, but it’s most likely a casting defect.

Both of my Mazda's have the cylinder deactivation feature. Super........
