A friend of my Wife reached out seeing if I might be able to shed some light on an issue.

2018 Yukon, 5.3l, 6 speed, 4wd. Transmission issue reported by service center at TCU failure. Quote 11k USD to replace transmission.

Any thoughts?

No idea but didn’t realize the 6 speed was still used in 2018. We had a 2017 with a 6.2 and the 8-speed.

Replace the TCU and maybe the solenoid valve control. Why would the rest of the trans be bad. Is this a dealer?
$11k for a rebuilt tranny?? It wouldn't be a new one.

We do new remans w/3 yr warranty all the time - right around $6000 out the door. The TCM does go bad in these. If caught early you can replace them for around $550 for the unit but often times the trans is gone by then.

Thanks, caught the owner by surprise. 60 year old woman driver, 70k miles, original owner, vehicle used only in Arizona. The husband of the owner was pretty frustrated at the failure.

I am trying to figure a feasible way to have them take the Yukon to @clinebarger . My concern is more about the quality of the work, than the price of the repair.

He is a good man to trust. He is about 45 min from me.
