2017 Silverado 6.2L (L86) 80.5k mi; Mobil 1 0W-40 3.9k mi - used oil analysis

Received the first oil analysis back on our 2017 Silverado 6.2L L86 engine, approx 80k miles on truck & 3,862 miles on the 0W-40 Mobil 1FS oil.
I’m a little concerned with my engines double the averages column, especially since there is no towing/hauling with it. Thus I wanted to see what those with more experience may have to say about the results.

My concern really stems from my neighbor having his lifters go out & thus destroying his camshaft on their 2014 Silverado 6.2L L86 engine that he bought new. I know him well & know he is very religious about his maintenance & lower mileage oil change intervals (5000 miles or less).

44 is high iron, but not astronomical. If everything sounds good, I'd give it another short run and see what happens on your next UOA. If it keeps going up I'd be more concerned than if it's level.
 
Uoa's capture only fine metals so something probably is wearing but 11ppm per 1k isn't the worst ever. Honestly try m1 15w-50 to see if they go down at all.
 
If those numbers are correct, that oil sheared like crazy in 3,800 miles. A full 3.0 cSt drop 😮 either that, or your fuel dilution is very high. Hard to tell with Blackstone since they don’t measure fuel dilution accurately.

I thought 0W-40 FS was known to shear pretty hard, no?

Correct, there is zero way to tell if the VII is shearing or there is fuel dilution. Blackstone cannot tell the difference, and due to this people often make inaccurate conclusions based upon their analyses.

It’s almost always fuel however. Exxon Mobil does not use inferior VII in their flagship oil and most engines do not shear the VII to any appreciable extent - especially on a short OCI like this.

I’ve had the truck since 31k miles & have used a bottle of Techron complete fuel system cleaner at each oil change. Hopefully there isn’t much fuel dilution taking place but… don’t know as this is the only time I’ve sampled the oil.

The 5W-40 uses inferior base stocks and may well have higher levels of VII. EP isn't going to help, But it is unlikely this is any issue with your engine.

And you need to use a different lab to accurately measure fuel in the oil. And to accurately measure viscosity for that matter.
 
No it’s not. That’s a common misconception on here based on unreliable UOA like this.

Well whenever it's used in a hemi it slips down to a 30 grade, including when I used it. HPL's oils stay in grade with the same engine, same use cases. And a hemi is not known for fuel dilution.

Those engines do seem to be problematic. Nevertheless the Blackstone report here for this engine is incapable of making that determination.

I think additive metals would be more helpful than a couple more points viscosity.

I think OP is a good candidate for an oil with a good dose of phosphorus. 1100ppm in the Delo 400 XSP with a stout 1200ppm zinc. Note also this is API SN Plus and meets the LSPI requirements of SN Plus,

0w-40 Euro FS is known to shear down but it's a controlled shear that stabilizes in the 30 grade range. It doesn't just keep shearing indefinitely.
So it’s engineered into the product by Exxon Mobil? Do they do this for other oils?

Do other manufacturers and blenders do the same thing?

The problem with these engines is mechanical lifter failure, no oil will prevent what happens to them. The lifters don't fail from lack of lube.
