Good morning everyone,

This morning wife went to start her Jeep as usual from the house. It did the normal double honk. When she came out Jeep was cold, engine did not run or anything. I went to start it with key fob and it would honk twice as normal but engine would not even crank. Starts normal when you push the button inside the vehicle.
I replaced the battery in the key fob and same thing. I went to get a different key fob that was newer and backup and same thing. Jeep would not start from the key fob, but starts normally when you inside and push the button.
So i'm assuming that key fob still has the programming, no new warning lights in the jeep, no starting issues. My start/stop engine option has not been working for over a year, and i like it like that and have never looked in to it to fix it, so that is not an issue. But I feel like I should mention it.
Where do I start to diagnose the problem?

my 2 cents:
If there are any error codes and certain other conditions it will disable the remote start.

your post is sorta light on details and you mash 2 vehicle problems together and it can be taken 3 or 4 different ways.

can you give us more information and in such a way as we know exactly the problem

based on the way I read it your wife's jeep has one issue and your separate jeep has a different issue?

Then you say your start stop hasnt been working for a year but when you stop at a light it works and kills the engine and you like it working but its not??

Is the check engine light on? Any other error codes? The remote start is disabled if there are other problems like stated in the post above, so that's where I would start.

If your check engine light is on for any code violation, the remote start will crank and fire the engine. It will run for a few seconds, then shut down. Other things that will affect remote start, is if the battery is about to go.

To check this you can buy an inexpensive code reader, plug it in, and clear the code. Your remote start should then work...... Until the code returns and illuminates the check engine light again.... Which it will. Ask me how I know.

Yep, if no codes check batt voltage -- maybe load test it, too, and make sure it doesn't think the hood is open

I'm sorry for the confusion. I edited my original post.
Unfortunately that's all the details I have. I push engine start button on the remote, jeep jinks twice and nothing happens. Changed battery on the remote, changed the remotes and all the same.
Only one jeep. I mentioned start/stop option because I feel like it's along the same system possibly, I don't know if that has to do anything with it.

Here's some basic information regarding what conditions a remote start may not work:

A Jeep's remote start might not work due to several reasons including: a low battery in the key fob, a faulty vehicle battery, a low fuel level, an open hood, the parking brake not engaged, the vehicle being on a steep incline, the driver's seat belt not fastened, extreme weather conditions, or a potential issue with the remote start system itself; check your owner's manual for specific reasons related to your Jeep model

Is this a factory remote start or aftermaket?

No check engine light. Only warning light is for stop/stop engine option that is not functional and hasn't been functioning for a year.
Remote start has been working with no issues with start/stop warning light for a year.
I'll be going to read all the code at the parts store today.

Factory remote start.
Key fob x2, new batteries.
Will be testing vehicle battery today, but no warning lights or regular starting issues.
Fuel is 3/4.
Parking brake is engaged and showing on the dash.
No incline, flat carport, covered no snow on the car.
No seatbelt issue. Noone inside the vehicle.
It is cold outside, 32 but not extreme.
No notification that there is issue with starting system.
Factory remote start system.

Does this jeep have two batteries? If so the auxiliary battery powers certain electrical components even when the engine is off. It almost sounds like a weak auxiliary battery. Just my guess.

it should be the one with the separate start stop battery under the passenger seat IIRC.

It does have two batteries and auxiliary battery was very low. Charging it right now.

Yup. Reading about it online i found out thats what that little battery is for. I'm charging it right now to see if that solves the issue. it tested low on load test. once all batteries charged and vehicle up and running normal, i'll go do alternator test to see why auxiliary battery was low.

Question about alternators for this vehicle. I see online on websites like AutoZone, O'Reilys and Advanced all mention specific alternators for the vehicle with start/stop options. ALl those alternators are $500+ dollars. Amazon have alternators that are for my vehicle but nothing mentioned about start/stop and they are $150. What is the difference?

Don't jump the shark. There's probably nothing wrong with your alternator. If there is, you would be better served by buying an OEM unit from the dealership or having it rebuilt by a competent local automotive electrical company.
