2013 BMW 328i Tire recommendation

My buddy owns a 2013 BMW 328i (4 door) and is looking for some good tires.
Currently, he is driving on FALKENS 225/35ZR20 90Y.

Wants a good tire but not too expensive

We were looking at CONTINENTALS 225/35R-20XL ULTRA HIGH PERFORMANCE ALL SEASON, LOAD INDEX:90

We want to know which tires to avoid and which perform good/real good

Any recommendations greatly appreciated

Thats exactly what I'm going thru, going nuts on how many different tires there are out there.
My buddy just wants a solid tire
 
Your choices are limited, but the Continental ExtremeContact DWS should work fine. Not too expensive either.
 
What are his priority ? Price, long tread life, handling/performance, soft/quiet ride, made in USA or oversea ... ? He needs to state what he is looking for to narrow it down to few choices.

Equivalent performance to the Falkens but pay less.
 
Isn't Falken already towards the bottom of the price ladder? I wouldn't buy anything cheaper than a Falken for a nice BMW.

His problem is the 20" rims which are not only impractical but also result in having to buy expensive tires.

So, if pricing is a concern, I'd either go with Yoko S.drive if he doesn't need an all-season tire or Conti DWS if he does really need an all-season tire. The Yoko should give you better wet traction. Keep in mind, the DWS doesn't really last all that long, despite the fairly high treadwear index.
 
There isn't cheap(less than $100/ea) 20" 35 series tire. Pete is right about Falken, it's 1 of the lowest price tire and hard to find a lower price.

Onlinetires.com (located at )has Max Performance Summer Hankook Ventus V12 EVO in his size for $125/ea. Contact local Amarica's Tire to see if they can order it and price match Onlinetires.com.

I had that tire on my S2000, its handling/performance was very good but it didn't lasted long. Mainly the S2000 ate rear like like crazy, none lasted more than 12-13k miles.
 
I seriously have to say this.
I know everyone has its own preferences, priorities but:
Driving 2013 328i and having Falken's and looking even cheaper tire?
No offense, but tell your buddy to buy Toyota Corolla.

technically, the car requires Run-flats.

Does he want summer tires? Or will he see some cold weather?

for all-seasons, there's COntinental ExtremeContact DWS (not run flat)

your runflat option is Pirelli P-Zero runflat (summer)

I would stay away from Run-flats. As far as I know, they destroy the wheel.

Maybe he should tell his wife to cash out for proper tires. Then she might figure out

At this point, so that he doesn't compromise handling and performance, he should go with a Falken or equivalent.... Regardless of price.

too bad BMW's don't come with spare tires.., when the wife gets a flat, if she ignores the TPMS warning, she'll destroy the wheel anyway.
 
I believe that his specific Falken has been discontinued.
 
Toyo Proxes 4 Plus would be another low-priced alternative. Toyo has a better reputation than Falken, IMO.

You can buy some Chinese Pegasus tires in that size for as little as $80 a pop, but I wouldn't want them even if someone gave them to me for free.
 
As a few people mentioned.
20", very low profile (35), cheap and quality do not exist together.

If money is concern - buy 17", or smallest wheels that fit and proper tires. This will save a lot of money.

After reading all the posts, I think it is better to stick to something comparable or better than the Falken. Not compromising performance
