2013 4Runner 2wd gear oil

Hey guys, anyone here with a 2013-ish 4Runner, please recommend a rear diff fluid. I trust word of mouth and you guys' experience more than I trust the information I'm finding on the interweb.

A female friend of mine wants to learn how to change her diff fluid, so we're going to walk through it one weekend. I am not at all familiar with Toyota requirements and she doesn't have her owner's manual.

What say you 4Runner guys?

If you want to stick with what is recommended in the manual, Redline 75w-85 would be your best best.

If you don't mind going to 75w90, ang 75w-90 GL-5 would probably be fine

Just make **** sure you can loosen the fill plug first before draining....

On real lockers, not limited slip, no additive should be needed.

I use Amsoil Sever Gear 75W90 in my 2015 Tacoma rear diff.

I have used Valvoline or Mobil1 (trucks) and Red Line (GS350) in my Toyota products.
Smooths out the drivetrain.

local Wal Mart, get Valvoline 75W90.
If you want to be warmer around heart, Redline or Amsoil or Motul.

Use any synthetic GL-5 75w90 from your local stores. Brand is irrelevant. Most likely has open diff and traction control. LS additive not needed but most gear oils have it mixed in already.

Make sure you get new drain plug washers from the dealer and use a torque wrench.
