Another one, I know. The details:

My 2012 Touareg TDI (3.0 CATA V6) will cross 130,000 miles tomorrow and I'm doing an oil and filter change. I have been doing oil only every 5k and oil + filter every 10k.

I have a Mann 8001x ready to go but also several choices of oil. On hand, I have:

Carquest 5W-40 dexos2
Carquest 5W-40 HDEO CK-4
Rotella T6 0W-40 CK-4

The dexos2 oil is probably the most suitable, but I don't really see the harm in running an HDEO. This engine consumes no oil and has no leaks or other mechanical problems.

I would run the Rotella personally. No evidence of superiority but I've always used it, and know many people who have as well. Someone with knowledge of specs and certs will be along soon!!

you want a low ash oil, VW 507,

a CK oil may lead to DPF failure

I'm aware. Been running 504/507 since 80,000 miles. Warranty is up and I am not buying more spec oil when I have plenty of "other" diesel oils.

the oils would protect the engine yes, but the ash may kill the very expensive emission control systems
Maybe. Maybe not. A full DPF does not really concern me.

I'd consider running PP Euro L instead. At least it carries MB and BMW approvals for modern diesels, along with ACEA C3.

And a 5L jug costs $25 at Wal-Mart; not sure you'll find a better oil for $5/qt.
