Comments: Thanks for the notes. You mentioned the oil life monitor said about 43% was remaining and it was probably right; this oil could've seen more use. Universal averages show typical wear levels for this type of GM engine after about 5,300 miles of oil use. You didn't go that long on this fill, which is probably why iron (steel) read lower. It's the only metal that should increase with miles on the oil, while the others remain relatively close to average. The viscosity was low for a 5W/30 and read in the 5W/20 range. The TBN was strong at 3.2, so try 5,000 miles next. Nice!

probably one of the better UOAs from a GM minivan in recent memory. 3k seems the safe change interval considering its terrible past results.

Low anti-wear additives from appearances (low boron, low-ish moly), and the standard amount of SN-style zinc.

The drop in viscosity wasn't due to fuel dilution, surprisingly. Why is this oil shearing down so much in a mere 3k miles?

I would suggest trying another oil. I have that same engine in a 2011 Camaro and use Pennzoil Ultra full synthetic due to the engine's fame for being rough on oil *somehow*.

I wonder if the insolubles count carbon soot in the oil, although it wasn't much. Soot is supposed to be a problem in our DI engines.
