Gang,
Here is UOA #20 on my FX4. I attribute the increase in iron to two things:
1 - This is the longest run (based upon time) that I have had to date (11/27/13 to 08/31/14 is 9 months) and it includes the winter season.
2 - There was about 4400 miles of towing in this run.
If you compare this run to the one of 04/13, you will see the winter time and towing making an impact on the iron there too. While I realize that Houston winters are not overly cold, the ones in Colorado are and we typically spend a few thousand miles there during the winter.
At any rate, I continue to be very pleased with the results of M1 AFE in this engine. M1 0W-20 EP replaced this run along with another Fram Ultra and I plan to run this combination to 20K. I removed the older UOA results because the post is becoming too wide, but for those coming in late, PU was all I ran prior to MS5K with OCIs varying between 5K and 7.5K during the warranty period. Blackstone comments below; enjoy!
Blackstone Comments: The TBN held steady at 2.9, though the TAN increased just a little to 5.3. That's still not overly acidic, and wear metals continue to look pretty good in this sample. Iron is a little higher, showing some steel wear, but this reading still isn't bad at all. Remember, average iron for this engine is 20 ppm after about 5,800 miles on the oil. We'd say on a ppm/mile basis, this reading is excellent, even though it has increased. All other wear continues to look good and no contamination was found. Try going up to 16,000 miles next time. Nice engine!
