Gang,

Below is UOA #19 for my FX4 and is another good showing for M1 AFE 0W-20. I should have kept it in longer, but I thought the TBN was going to be lower (live and learn). I will definitely run this fresh load out to 20K and see how it is doing. Of the three oils used in this truck, the M1 is the smoothest and performed the best--compare to the lower mileage MS5K runs. I also really like the low insolubles despite the longest run to date. The air filter was changed right after the 10K UOA (the 10K UOA and this one is the same load). Blackstone comments are below and your thoughts and comments always welcome.

PS...Tig--I am pretty sure that you can extend past 10K

2010_FX4: You said you were interested in the TBN, and it looks perfectly fine here at 2.9. There's still plenty of active additive left for a longer oil run, even after more than 15,000 miles on the oil. Wear hasn't changed much at all since the last sample, and this oil has about 5,000 more miles on it. You've got one nice engine on your hands, that's for sure. No harmful contaminants were found, and the TAN was 5.0 (a little more acidic than last time). Shoot for 17,500 miles next time. We think this engine will be able to handle that just fine.

Great run! Always glad to see good UOAs on an F-150. Excellent low oil consumption too. My F-150 also uses very little, if any, oil between changes.

You sure put a lot of miles on that beast.

I should have noted in the OP, the make-up oil was not due to the engine using any, it was due to the loss of oil when I pulled the sample at 10K. I would guess the actual oil used by the engine would be less than 1/2 quart.

Not impressive at all man. Kidding of course, looks awesome! I think this is the oil I'm going with for the next OCI on the Civic, and I'll run it the full MM interval.

Not all; probably 70/30 highway versus mixed city.

Wow great to see! I know m1 0w20 is a winner but B_S hit it on the head, you have a one nice engine on your hands. Just outstanding! Thanks for all of the valuable info.

Once again, I'm amazed at how you rack up the miles. If you didn't do extended OCIs, you'd be doomed!

On another note, I'm surprised the AFE uses magnesium. For some reason, I thought that was more of an HDEO thing. I learn something new every day, thankfully.

You're going to become Blackstone's poster boy soon.

You must sit at gas pumps a lot with all those miles. I'm curious as to how much lower your TBN will be if you don't sample it and add that 3/4 quart make up.

Castrol Edge Gold also uses Mg as an additive.

2010FX4,
I talked to Mobil tech and he said he was doing 20K with M1 0-20 with an oil filter change at 10K in his own engine. As for me, I have been doing 10K OCIs since 1978 with M1, so increasing my OCI is something I might do. Nice report on your Ford.

Heh, for a V-8 it does OK on economy, but you are right it is a lot of fuel. I would hazard to guess the TBN would be in the 1.5-1.7 range without the makeup oil.

10K is a nice round number, but you could likely go to 12,500 without blinking an eye and gain a free OCI on every 4th change.

Nice report!

The AFE and EP brews seem to be a step ahead of the generic M1 line up, a couple extra bucks well spent IMO especially if you're gonna truly do and extended OCI.

Most excellent report! Strong flash is impressive, didn't shear too much, low 'wear metals'. Very impressive.
