I replaced the valve cover gasket and spark plugs on my recently new to me 2010 Civic. Got the car at 118k, now has 125k miles. The car had an aftermarket valve cover gasket that was slightly weeping oil and Autolite spark plugs. 🤮

Now has an OEM valve cover gasket (only $10) and NGK plugs. I'm not surprised the engine is clean but this could easily pass as a brand new engine. The previous owner or more likely shop did a sloppy job with the rtv... 20221216_194853.jpg20221216_194858.jpg20221216_194905.jpg20221216_195416.jpg20221216_195425.jpg

It's strange that Fel-Pro gaskets work so poorly on Asian vehicles & so well on Domestic vehicles?

Were you having misfires or drivability concerns? Don't be so quick to rag on Autolite as they made Ford OE plugs for decades. Then Ford switched to NGK & I can't count how many 3.5 Ecoboost plugs I've seen crack/carbon track in a little as 50,000 miles.

No, I wasn't experiencing any issues with the Autolites. I just don't think they should be in a Honda.

Did you adjust the valve clearances ? My wife's Stream has an R20, and we also have L13 and L15 engines in the family, all with valve adjustment. I don't want to go in there for no reason, but I do want to check those clearances. I check my motorcycle valves every year...17 years without a look in my car (Airwave) and I feel surely something must've changed.

I will continue to ignore, and hope it's the right decision.

I checked some of them and they seemed ok so I just left them. If anything they were loose. I don't have any experience adjusting valves so I didn't want to mess anything up when they seemed fine.
