Posting this not as a guessing game on the usual suspects but strictly model and year specific question as to if there is some known issue with the 2AZ-FE motor smile So the other day when I fetched the fiancee's RAV to change the oil I noticed it has a hesitation coming off idle (stoplights) and on the 1-2 shift (auto trans). Sort of a momentary bog on each instance. I know the usual suspects... dirty MAF or flaky MAP sensor or TPS. Sort of suspect the TPS because it goes like stink (for a 2.4L...) if you put your foot into it.

Went through this same issue with my daughters Nissan. Changed all those items you mentioned and still had same problem. You would never guess that it was Bosch platinum spark plugs. Looked perfect and all clean too. Put a new set of Autolite Platinums in from Advance Auto that were on sale at $2.49. Problem completely gone. Go figure.

Ditto on the plug suggestion, when were they replaced last? Myself -- NGK iridiums made my Camrys purrrr. Why not throw a bottle of Techron Fuel System Cleaner in the Rav also. Is the tranny fluid up to spec also?

2008 Rav4 have the oil consumption issue. You may want to check the oil level. Yes, it caused hesitation in a friend's 2008 Rav4 and a lot of engine noise when the oil was low. Toyota extend the warranty to 10 years from service date and less than 150k miles. Check the Toyotanation or other Toyota forums for information.

Could be a coil going bad. My Camry was like that earlier this year and it was a bad spark plug wire, which was fairly new. I know you have coil on plug, so maybe it's a coil. Do you have a code reader you can monitor it?

Engine hesitation or trans related? Thats what you need to figure out first. If engine: Step 1: Clean MAF and throttle body, retest. Still an issue, Id go with a bottle of techron or gumout or crc guaranteed to pass fuel system cleaner and retest after full tank of gas has been run through. If trans: If fluid hasnt been changed in awhile, id go with that first.

yup my parents had a 2006 rav4, same exact issue. There is a TSB (technical service bulletin) buried under "transmission update". Looks like Toyota did it to pass emissions then released an update to the ECU to correct it once the first year production was out of the way. When my parents got the update the application of the gas pedal was MUCH more responsive, like a normal car. Might want to get to your dealer and search for a transmission/drivetrain update. It had nothing to do with the transmission but that's where the buried it. Sure, go ahead and check all the usual suspects but I bet once you clean/check everything it will still have the issue.. pay the dealer to flash/update the ecu.

Any chance you remember the TSB number on this?

well I tried to find it and all I keep finding is stuff dated 2013 and newer for service bulletins!! ugh.. I just spent the last 40minutes looking.. best bet is to go to the dealer and have them look up powertrain service bulletins.. I remember it talked about delayed shifting.
