Did a short OCI for base for wear trends. Filter was BD+ 3323. After this report, I believe I'll have no probs with 10k OCI. Very happy with the results. Anyone see a problem going from 5k to 10k?

I personally feel a 5k jump is a lot and would highly caution almost anyone from making a leap like that BUT I think it can be done with ease in that engine with that oil.

10k no problem...

BTW My uncle has the same engine and runs 10k's with Shell Syn 5w30 and the oil looks OK and not a drop lost over the OCI.

Mmmm.

Thinking I will be going back to M1 0w40 in the wife's Clio.

Might even throw some in the Taxi. Though the engine still sounds peachy with the 10w40 Maxlife.

Although it didn't affect wear, silicon is high for the miles...I'd check air filtet ans ducting before going 10k.

Another perfect VQ uoa on a 40wt.

Been running M1 0w40 in my VQ for a few years now and it never ran better.

M1 0w40 seems like the perfect match for these engines.
So much for thinner is better.

Not to hijack the the thread, but did any of you notice negative effects going to a 40wt? Like noise, sluggishness or loss of mpg? I ask because next OC I'm going with GC in my 350z, and may try this 0w40 on the next one.

I've lost maybe 1 mpg, and the engine takes a bit longer to heat up. That's really it. Quieted the engine nicely. I've run PYB, PP, AND PU in this in the 5w30 flavor, and M1 0w40 is my favorite. I know oil life is not indicated by color, but the M1 turned a honey brown while the others were very dark after a 5k OCI.

@Addyguy, the slightly elevated Si could be due to the fact that I changed my air filter ~ 500 miles before the oil change. Didn't want the new fill contaminated by an older filter.

Have you done oil analyses with other oils?

Losing 1 mpg seems to be significant for a car that only gets mid-teens to mid-twenties for gas mileage. You're essentially burning up an extra gallon of gas each fill-up or two.

No analyses with other oils. This is the first I've ever done.

One MPG may seem like a lot, but this is the first change I've done with a 40 wt. My driving is all backroad/highway, about 55-70 MPH. Went from ~26 to ~25 MPG. This could also be because of cooler weather, rain, wind, and so on. Hard to tell from a single run of 5k.

No i got between 20-22 with 5w30 and the same with 0w40. I don't bother with tenths, its within statistical noise.

No sluggishness. I didn't notice any difference at all, the engine is silent on this oil.

Mobil 1 0w40 is an awesome oil. Readily available, uses "ultra high performance base stocks per Mobil PDS", meets the most demanding specifications out there and is a nice viscosity being not to thick of a 40 grade. And it's been tested and used around the world in multiple applications and racing conditions.

1 mpg is an acceptable trade if wear metals are less with this oil. And tbn isn't linear,so if you've got 6tbn remaining I can't see any issue running the oil for 10000 miles.
Looks like a decent report to me.

Speaking of mileage,my Z gets the best hwy mileage if I cruise 80-85mph(which you can do legally in some parts of Tx). Once I reach 80mph, the engine's powerband kicks in and the car seems to effortlessly push itself. Wonder if the VQ's are the same way?

I see how well it performs on the VQ35....how about on the VQ37HR in the G37?

Ive been saying Ill stick with 5w-30 while under warranty (so far just PU), but if the Mobil1 stuff will make that much of a difference I might try it once or twice even while under warranty

I dont drive my car hard and would be interested to see if it makes the initial startup "sounds like a diesel engine" go away faster, or completely.

The thing is, he doesn't have UOAs of past oil that he has used, which could have gave him the same results without losing mileage.

Love the TBN after 5k

I have to drain out $50 worth of 0w40 in 3 months that'll only have 6-7k on it

Seems a pity but have to comply with those pia warranties
