An out of town friend has asked to look at captioned truck. Photos look nice, only 31k miles and fleet maintained. I know little to nothing about this vintage - other than the usual used car stuff is there anything in particular that deserves attention?

Thanks.

I think the 4.6 was fine in 07. With 31k who knows what to expect. I've seen government trucks with 15k miles needing all of the brake lines replaced. One Super Duty was so bad we paid a dealer in Maine where it was auctioned like $2k just to get it to where the wheels would move so we could transport it to AL to sit in a lot somewhere.

31,000 miles on a 14 year old truck? That's the first thing I would be suspicious of. Run the Carfax first off.

Photos make the 31k believable, but a Carfax would be in the plans. Thanks.

I worked for a few Municipalities. Super low mileage is common. The cities I used to work for would buy Fleet F150's, Escapes, Tahoe, Explorer, etc. Each department would get a car and they would share it for official use only.

In a little city there isn't far to go. Staff would only take the cars out a few times a week and drive it maybe 2 miles then 2 miles back.

It was common to replace dry-rotted tires and wipers on these cars as they sit outside doing nothing.

We had a 96 Tahoe with around 30k miles, and a 99 Explorer with about 40k miles.

The Propane Econoline Vans had almost no miles on them because people were afraid of re-fueling it or running it out of propane, so they sat and went to auction for cheap. The process for refuling propane involved wearing gloves to protect from cold.

I had friends that bought a I think 2001 Ford F150 Harley and never drove it because they thought is was a collectible .

the jellybean harley is about as collectible as it gets for an f150, it shares the (h)eaton with the lightning. harley davidson is of course america’s largest and most dangerous cult

Low miles doesn’t always mean it’s all nice.

I work for a large company, the mailroom van doesn’t get used much. I’ve driven it a few times, it’s a 2000 or 2001 Astro Van. Has 16k miles and you’d swear it had 160k miles. Some things are in great shape while other things are toast.

Yes, I’ll have to drive it. It has a light bar and ladder rack so even with low miles one can still wonder about the amount of time spent idling. Other than a bit or rust around the door bottom seams it does look good in photos, though.
