2007 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3 - How can I disconnect the fuel line at the fuel rail?

I started later than I wanted to to replace the leaking intake-manifold gaskets on our 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3.

There were a few frustrations along the way, mostly self-inflicted, but I'm almost ready to remove the lower IM. I've run out of daylight, so have knocked off for the night.

Anyway, the final step before I can remove the lower IM's bolts is to disconnect the fuel line.

Unfortunately, the videos I've watched on YouTube appear to show a different type of disconnect. I fear someone in the past has modified this one - perhaps damaged the end, and spliced in a different sort of connector. GRRR!

I'll try to get a picture tomorrow. Stay tuned ... :)

The black plastic piece on the fuel-rail side moves easily - this is its resting position.

It can be pulled back this far with no resistance, then stops.

In lieu of a proper disconnect tool, I took a guess as to how this might come apart, and inserted an anti-shorting device as used with BX (spiral-armoured) cable. It's show pulled almost out, but does go in all the way easily. Unfortunately, nothing happens.

Any help will be very appeciated!

You're supposed to press in. And it might be FUBAR'd. See:

I'm not into irrational panic (so be sure to wear an N95!!!!!!!!!) but per the video could be a real safety issue

Once the line is separated, you can easily replace the plastic clip, if necessary. They come in both 3/8" and 5/16" line sizes. As much as I hate to suggest it...on a Saturday, it's Dorman to the rescue!

Success, of a sort - I removed the airbox and was able to eventually disconnect the short final section of gas line upstream from the fuel rail. The connection at the fuel rail remains stubbornly in place. I should replace that section.
