2007 Accord K24 Oil Dipstick

Hello,

Picked up this car in December. Was there ever any talk of a calibration error on the dipstick? 5 quarts of oil puts me precisely 1/2 way between the 'add' and full' holes...

I have the same car. Check out the shape of the bottom of the oil pan. Having the car on ramps actually drains more oil. So the angle and the amount of time you drain the car has a big role in how much to refill.

Draining the oil with the car level I was refilling with 4.5 ish quarts. One day I was looking at the shape of the pan and realized if I raise the front, more will drain out. It did; 1/2 a quart more. Now I just do 5 quarts with the front on ramps and all is good.

Maybe if I raised the front higher and let it drain a little longer I could get 5.5 in?

Mine takes 4.2 litres with a filter, which = 4.5 quarts

I always dump in the 5 quart jug. I do let it drain for the better part of an hour. Maybe a little overfilled; not really sure.
But half way between marks? Never.

Interesting. I've checked it at multiple locations, currently in the garage. 5 quarts of Havoline and a OCOD puts me squarely between the 2 marks.


Edit: I do drain it with my Rhino ramps.

The angle that the car is positioned during the drain determines how much is left behind. The higher the front end the more that comes out. Kinda odd how the front of the oil pan has a dip in it lower than the drain plug.

I have a 2004 XC70 with a turbo charged 2.5 I5 engine. Mobil 1 0w40 shows very low wear(single digits) in 5,000 mile OIC. Works awesome!

They do that on purpose (keep some old oil in)
to help keep the tribochemical barrier from getting destroyed!

That is exactly where K24s come filled from the factory. The upper line is "MAX". The lower line "MIN". Half way is full enough.
