Replacing a rusted lower oil pan on a 2006 Nissan Altima with a 2.5 I4 engine. The factory install used RTV only. I would rather use a gasket if possible. Online configurators on Amazon, RA, etc. say what looks like the exact gasket doesn't fit. I'm wondering if that's just because it didn't have one from the factory. And actually they fit. Wondering if anybody has used the gasket instead of RTV.

It possibly has something to do with the depth of the pickup strainer, It looks like a very easy job and a small pan. I would use Permatex Ultra black which has maximum oil resistance on this one.

Use RTV. I really like the Genuine Nissan RTV which is a Three Bond product. It dries super hard (and harder than Toyota FIPG Black or any OTC RTV) but requires a caulking gun.
