Guys,

My buddy has a 2005 Lincoln Aviator with 135,000 miles on it. After driving for 5K miles, his oil was below Low. No leaks. His V8 just must burn a lot of oil. Do you think he should stick with plain Jane Mobil 1 Full Synthetic or make the switch to Mobil 1 High Mileage?

Your thoughts and or oil recommendations are welcome.

Thanks!

It burned a quart+ in 5000 miles in a 10year old vehicle. Nothing crazy just make sure he check it.

Ya - should I use High Mileage or continue with regular full synthetic?

M1 HM or MaxLife red bottle if it's still using oil on M1. 5W-30 instead of 5W-20 may also improve the usage.

If it doesn't leak, it doesn't matter. Either will burn at the same rate due to rings and valve guides. HM is really only a benefit when you have leaky seals somewhere.

Burning a quart at that range is not bad at all. I'd move up to a thicker oil and try that, but nothing like a 15W-40, 5W-30 or a 10W-30 might be his new friend. Might check the PCV system as well.
