GM SUV's come factory filled with 75W-90 synthetic in the rear. The front is unclear, for a long time it was synthetic in the rear, dino in the front.
Reason is the parts come from differnet sources and the fluids are installed by the mfg, not GM. Contrary to popular belief they do not ship them dry.
Thats said, I have owned GM 4x4's since 1975 and I always put 75W-90 Amsoil in everyone of them ASAP. The axles often sit for long periods of time from mfg to delivery to the final purchaser and condensation etc can form in that time. For instance I was looking a new Cadillac CTS last month and it was built in July of 2004 and still sitting on a dealer lot, 1 yr and 4 monts later. I would change that ASAP. I am sure the car was moved a 100 times in that time.
I have the Amsoil 75W-90 in my 1992 Chevy for years and in my 2004 GMC Sierra Z71
