I'm thinking about taking on a project, car needs trans, otherwise in great shape @160K miles.

Can this be done with jack stands or does an entire subframe have to be removed from a lift?

Can I even gain enough clearance with a floor jack?

Thanks.

I've dropped plenty of FWD transaxles though never a corolla. Jackstands were enough. 2x4 across the fenders with a strap at least trying to hold the engine up.

If I were in your shoes I'd get some milk crates, scissor jacks and other junk and you'll pull this off. A corolla automatic weighs, what, 120 lbs? Manhandle it in there.

Those engines have the sticking oil rings. Don't ask how I know that:)

Should be able to go out the top easily with a cherry picker. I don't think there's an easier car to work on than that era Corolla lol
