I own a 2004 Camry LE V6 with only 27000 miles. Any advice on when I should replace the timing belt and should I have the water pump replaced at the same time.

If it's setup anything like a V6 Accord, definently. But, with only 27K miles, why change it?

Most engines specify a time OR mileage. For example, our Honda's V-6 engine is 7 years OR mileage (I think it's 105k miles). I plan to change it this summer, despite it only having 80k miles on it.

6 years/75k seems to be the happy medium among most car manufacturers. I am a proponent of replacing it earlier than recommended (hence the 6/75 rule).

Hok....if you are replacing that belt by yourself, you're a better man than I!!!! That is some complicated work and just about the few things I won't tackle myself. Yeah, it's 105K on the Accords, but I personally wouldn't sweat changing out that belt. But, that would depend on if the car was garaged or not. With that little of miles on it and it was a garage queen, I'd let it stay on.

I checked the owners manual on the Camry and its 108 months (9 years) or 90,000 miles so I guess I have another year or so. Yes. it is a garage queen.

Time is your enemy in this case. I saw my Civic's belt after only 2 years of highway use and 100k miles, and it looked exactly the same as when it came out of the box it was in when new. I've also seen a 15-year old belt that was never changed and when I pulled it out of the engine all frayed and cracked/crumbling, that was a different story.

I haven't yet decided on whether I'm going to replace it myself or not. However, this Acura was bought from my parents, who stored it for extended periods of time over the summer in Arizona. I figure that replacing it after so long makes good sense.

my experience is the Japanese makes can go for a good long time on a belt, but VW's and Audi's better get changed when they tell you to!

I saw plenty of Honda B-series belts come apart before their suggested change interval...

that's why I said in MY experience; YMMV.
I've only dealt w/ mazdas, toyotas, VDubs and audis.

technically the timing belt is 9 years old. i say definitely change it for piece of mind versus worrying about it on a daily basis. also, consider getting it done in a shop because that v6 is harder to work on versus the 4 banger. edit: and yes get the water pump replaced at the same time.

Around 80k is when you should start thinking about a change.

When you actually DO this, get new pulleys with your new belt.
Really.
