2003 VW GTi 1.8T - 200k Kms

Recently acquired a 2003 VW GTi 20th Anniversary Edition with 200,000kms
I know the original owner and it always used Euro 5/0W40 with OCI's every 5-8k kms

It has sat in storage for 2 years and I am going to fully restore the car, replace all the maintenance items.

Under the oil cap is decent, some sludge as common with these 1.8Ts

What is the oil recommendation today? Which is the best for decent cleaning? M1 FS 0W40? Pennzoil 5W40?

200,000 on my 1.8T jetta running great at trade + using 10-30 REAL synthetic oil prevented ANY sludge. a very similar + great engine + lots of upgrades are available!! good luck with your project + first off be sure the timing belt + related parts are recently replaced, if not do so ASAP before driving it!

M1 0W40 FS.

Sludge indicates that the owner used probably ILSAC oils.

After several runs, keep 0W40, or you can go Motomaster 5W40 or 0W40. As long as oil is approved for VW502.00, but more importantly MB229.5.

That engine is excellent as long as oil is appropriate.
Anything but Euro oil, and it turns into a sludge bomb.

VW 502 00, 504 00 or 511 00, preferably along with MB 229.5 or 229.51.
I'd run at least two shorter intervals and try to avoid short distances esp.
during winter. I'd also consider using HPL's cleaner. Very nice GTI btw.!

M1 0w-40 is very high in calcium. About 3300ppm if I'm not mistaken. Use that.
