The published steps for replacing the PCV valve on my van lists removing the intake first. I'm hoping that this is not actually necessary. Anyone have any experience with removing the valve without removing the intake?

I just use long pliers and work around that I have never removed intake ever. You also want the feel the area around the back of the intake where the pcv hose elbow goes in to intake as the elbow gets old and sucks shut and gets holes in them all the time.

vssjim,

Thanks for your reply. The valve just twists out, right?

Yes it just pops out. If you ever need to change the plugs or coil packs you will need to remove the intake to get to the back plugs. This is really easy on the MPV, the intake even uses a reusable accordion type seal for the intake. You can have the intake off in about a half hour if needed. Hope this helps.
