Changing the timing belt and see this. Not a lot of miles but at 19 years old I assume they didn't bother with synthetic oil on a low priced car.

That's what I was thinking... that thing still hasn't seated the rings during break-in! 
I can't even remember the last ZX2 I saw.
Those last escorts were pretty cool, when I was a kid my friend had a wagon that would make a sheet metal sound when you sat in the back seat.
