2001 Town&Country running really rough

If the idle smooths out, then you'll have to look at the egr system. If the egr seat doesn't seal properly, you'll have a rough idle. It's not unusual to get hard deposits on the seat that won't dissolve with solvent. Pulling the vacuum line won't uncover this problem.

You can run for quite some time with the egr blocked.

I had a problem with my 4 cyl. Caravan that matched this description. No codes were thrown.

Sometimes I put on blinders regarding diagnostics and ignore the obvious. I tried doing what you did and finally submitted to taking it into a dealer. Their small scanners caught nothing. They said they had to hook it up to their "bigger" diagnostic computer (what is this?) and they caught an intermittent mis fire to one cylinder caused by a defective plug wire. I would think spark plugs could go bad internally also.

The 2 year old van had about 30K on the engine. These new plug wires can be damaged internally pretty easy.....just sharing my experience.

well after replacing the ignition coil, 1 plug that looked a little more worn than the others and pulling and cleaning the injectors the problem is FIXED, she runs like new

You can run the engine without EGR, but it may run hotter and less efficiently.

If you have smog tests where you live, you will not pass.
