I have a 2001 Subaru Forester. I live in Dallas, TX where the outside temps will climb to 100F. What viscosity should I use. Subaru recommends 5w30. I am currently using either Mobil 1 5w30 or 10w30.

Any recommendations are welcome.

5w30. The Mobil 1 will work just fine.

I ran my 2000 Forest to 127,000 miles using Mobil 1 5w30 here in South Florida. used oil analysis excellent with 6,000 OCI and OEM or Pureone oil filters. Car sold to neighbor and no issues to date at 146,000 miles. Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Platinum in 5w30 is my pick.

It depends if you have any usage with 5w30 and how your used oil analysis are (if you decide to do them), IMO.

5w30 is preferred for the best fuel economy and higher viscosites are required in high temps. 10w30 and 10w-40 is allowed from 0F and up.
