recently made a 325 mile trip with my truck on the "back roads" ran 50-55 pretty much all the way. i have amsoil synthetics in my truck from front to back. it's a 2 wheel drive with 245/16 tires and a 3:55 axle. got 21.24 m.p.g. with it. best previous gas mileage was just over 18 with conventional oil, under the same conditions.

Is this a HEMI. Because my 2006 3/4 ton, with the Hemi, 4wd with 3:70 rears gets about 11 around town and 14-15 on the highway with Castrol dino. But most Hemi without the mds are getting close to the same. Iam considering on switching to Havoline Synthetic or Quaker State synthetic.

You did better than me. I have always driven for economy (best performance means engine works least), and my recently traded '01 Ram 1500 2WD QC SB with same size tires and gears only got 19 at 58-63 mph. I had an off-road tread tire (came with truck), ran REDLINE and SCHAEFFERS and felt that the tires were the biggest impediment to breaking 20 mpg on that truck.

It weighed from 5,200 to 5,600-lbs in usual configurations. The 318 struggled to keep in overdrive in the hills (never did get around to replacing intake manifold gasket, an awesomely common problem [no, I had no discernible oil consumption, but a plug check -- #6 & #8 showed fouling]); seems you've found the sweet spot. Good luck.

panzerman, not a hemi. it's a magnum 318. i have a good highway tire on my truck. they were new take-off's from a 2007 gmc 2500. hey tansedan, i think your truck w/ a qc is probaly somewhat heavier than mine.

Good job. That's great mileage out of that truck.
