My brother's 2000 Olds Silhouette (aka Chevy Venture) failed NY state inspection for having the wipers parking in the "up" position. He heard from one mechanic that the wiper transmission went bad, and from another that some pin or bracket was bent out of shape.
Long story short, we installed a working, nearly-new wiper transmission from the u-pull-it yard and straightened the only bent and worn bracket we could find in the wiper motor/transmission/mounting plate assembly. The wipers now work as intended (knock on wood).
We just threw parts at this problem. It worked this time. I'm now trying to find out what exactly went out, so we can fix it again when it fails again.
