1) After you drain the coolant and fill with water ONLY, do you take the thermo out? Does this help with the "water flushing" aspect anymore than leaving it in?

2) I'm switching to a 70/30 mix. If my math is correct on a 12.6 gal system:
3.78 will be coolant
8.82 will be water

Can I round up on the coolant to 4 gals and top with water? Won't be as scientific as some would like, but will work... right?

What are you working on? Check your math again. Those numbers would make sense if they were quarts.

I always take the thermostat out when I flush the cooling system. I flush by introducing garden hose water through the upper radiator hose into the engine (reverse of flow during use). Maybe others use a different method that don't need the thermostat taken out.

Rounding up is okay. Mixing water and antifreeze is never an exact science.

CHECK YOUR NUMBERS:

Yeah, for some reason I was thinking gallons and then realized that it's qts. Gonna drain, take out thermo and "flush," then add 1 gal of coolant and fill with water...

Thanks for the time
