2 door sedans of '81

When it comes to classic cars, the two door versions were much more desirable and had more value than four door sedans which were not valued near as high as a coupe.

That article begins with the wrong thesis.

Coupes aren't dead because of people whining.

They're dead because of car seats, requirements that kids be in them until they're 4-foot-9, and that baby seats can't be up in front by the passenger air bag.

Who wants to navigate a rear facing car seat in a coupe? Nightmare fuel.

Bad enough getting out of front seats as you age .

I had one of these minus the sunroof and vinyl patch on the roof from 2000 to 2005. TBH I liked it, the little V6 got it moving well enough, high 20's mpg most tanks, pretty decent ride, and the seats were the best ones I've ever had for road trips. I put a decent headunit in it, some good 6x9 speakers in the rear window deck, and a bass tube and amp in the trunk. It's the only car I've really bothered to wax and wash regularly as the chrome was all in good shape still and the white walls have to be white!

Last GM I owned, was a gold '79 Cutlass similar to pic below but that's not mine. Only had a 305 in it but 4bbl carb, was fast enough. I lost my license from tickets while I owned it... though the final straw ticket was driving something else.

I didn't have much trouble with it but GM quality control didn't improve as much as its competitors in subsequent decades, so no desire to own a GM again.

My 1965 VW Beetle and my 87 VW Cabriolet have 2 doors. My 1984 Audi GT Coupe only had 2 doors and My Posche 944 only had 2 doors. Oh and my 1990 Ranger XLT only has 2 doors.

The fuel economy of some of those V6's and V8's would make a newer vehicle blush!
I must got 29.7 mpg (imperial) which is 24.7 US mpg with my 84 Cutlass on a 6 hour round trip going about 50-60mph most of the way with gentle acceleration. 350 Oldsmobile v8, with a quadrajet (quadrajunk depending on what "expert" you ask, overdrive 2004R transmission (0.67:1 4th gear ratio) and a 2.93 final drive ratio. My truck (2005 Silverado with a 4.8/4L60E, 4wd 3.42 gears and 33" Goodyear duratracs) would get about 16 mpg under the same conditions. (As long as I remove all the surveying equipment and iron bars from the back before the trip.

Yes my 2018 Silverado will get 25mpg at 70mph all day long. And we are not even talking about utility.
How long do you plan to keep that 2018 Silverado? I put my 1984 Cutlass on the road in 2006 with 125k miles on it. Now it has 240k miles on it with the same engine and transmission. My work truck is a 2005 with 227k miles and 9957 engine hours. I own my truck and get paid mileage to drive it but the newest truck the company owns is a 2018 f150 5.0 10 speed that most spent 2 months at the Ford dealership getting the transmission replaced. Apparently they tried to rebuild it first which didn't work so they had to replace it.

My grannies had a 1982 LeSabre 2 door if I remember correctly it had a 5.0 307 the doors were a mile long

Had a 1980 Cordoba with a 318...would get in the lower 20s mpg on the highway...sure miss that car it was a pleasure to drive..

My 1984 Impala was a great car. 305 2bbl and a 4 speed AT Bought @ 77K for $2500 / sold @218K for probably $400; MTBE killed the carb and it used to unlock the TC due to a bad temp sensor, but otherwise virtually problem free car

86 Escort GT. First year for the third brake light. 1.9 EFI with a 5 speed. This was my first new car!!!

I had an 86 wagon with the carb. But I got it (used) because the new ones had that EFI and a test drive made a big impression on me. I ended up getting pretty down on my escort, but the EFI model had great manners when I drove it. Did you like that one?
