1ZZFE Plugs

Unknown time spent in my 2002 corolla. 170k on engine, burns a quart of 10w40 every 500 miles. No codes, running "ok" but I feel it stumble on gulps of oil after decellerating. I stuck in some barely used iridiums I pulled from my camry.

typical oil burning, fouling the plugs, fix the oil return holes and your issue is resolved.

1zzfe rebuilds are my specialty.

Lol eljefino you are the champ at being a cheap-skate in car repair (in a good way). I think it's awesome how you fix your cars so cheaply, such as using Camry spark plugs in the Corolla.

Which oil return holes? The ones in the head for valve train oil or the ones in the oil control ring?

Or other ones?

I'm also a terrible pack-rat.

The camry plugs might be a heat range colder but I run this thing at 75 MPH most days so it should work out.

When did the 1ZZFE go from dual ground plugs to single?

I had a '98 Corolla 1ZZFE and the manual said "DO NOT USE SINGLE GROUND PLUGS"

I haven't changed them yet on my wife's '02 Corolla (only at 98k miles) but the listed replacement Denso plugs are only single ground.

98-99 corolla/prizms were dual ground copper plugs(this is the non-vvti version, with spark plug wires)
00-08 corollas/00-05 celicas & spyder mr2/03-08 matrix & vibes use the single ground iridium plug (these are the vvti version with coil over plugs)
