Dude, you will go to jail if you hurt someone trying to steal your goods, only if they threaten your life can you defend yourself. Weather you shoot them or hit them with a baseball bat, you are WRONG.

The proper senerio should be to remove you and your family to a "safe" room, then if the intruder comes in, tell them to stop or you will "shoot". If they continue to advance then you can "shoot them" make sure you "kill them or try to" Saying I just wanted to "wound" them is grounds for the law to take you to prision because your life was not in danger.

You have to show you or someone else's life was in grave danger. Someone coming at you, weather they have a weapon or not is reason to "shoot" them. But if you call out and they run, let them go, that is what the police are for.

I'm looking at getting a first shotgun for some bird hunting with my dogs next year. I'll probably go to walmart and get a H&R single shot in a 20ga. This is a very light gun, and you will be taught not to "waste" shells, since you only have one at a time.

BTW the H&R is less than $100

You should come out to the range where I shoot and watch me shoot doubles with a pump Mossberg-500 with a "FULL" Choke

The old geezers there hate it when I get 43/50 with a $200 gun!

Thanks for your concern, but I was pretty much kidding. I'm not going to hurt somebody for anything less than physically assaulting me, or threatening my family. I no longer keep firearms around, so I won't be shooting anybody. Talking about beating someone's butt is just leftover bull****e macho posturing that I thought I was rid of by now. In 20+ years of martial arts training and teaching, I learned many ways to that stuff, then I finally learned that I don't want to.
My whole little point was sort of a counterpoint to all the talk about shooting people for this or that. Not even so much the shooting, because most of us will never have to worry about it, but the attitude behind all the talking. We're all too paranoid and ready to contemplate violence.
My opinion, anyway. Take that and $3 and you can go to Starbucks.
