hey everybody.. i've been a lurker for sometime and had searched the forums for my query. no luck. here goes..

just got a used 99 full size montero. couldn't find the manual. maybe some of the guys here has or know someone who has the same suv.

need to know how much oil and weight to put in. planning on a long trip in a month. would like to change the oil before i hit the road.

it has 94k miles and i live in southern cali.

thanks in advance.

I don't know but would figure that it's between 4-6 quarts.

I'd use a 10-30wt oil and add in 4 quarts. Then start it up and check for leaks and then fill to the dipstick.

Prob near 5 quarts.

Keep the OCI around 4-5k and any good Dino (Pennzoil, Chevron, Havoline, etc) will do you fine.

Take care, Bill

thanks for the reply bill. i'll defintely do what u said. i use pennzoil for all our vehicles. got it from my dad hehe he never uses any other oil but that.

anybody here has the same suv?

trickster,

I have a 96 Montero with 3.0 liter engine. The owner's manual states that both the 3.0 and 3.5 liter V-6s take 4.5 quarts of oil. I've found that to be accurate in my case. I use M1 5W-30 (SL) and change at 7500 miles. I have about 69,000 miles on the truck now and will post a recent UOA shortly.

Cheers, Mark

I have the same engine in my Montero. FWIW, once you add the capacity of the filter and cooler lines, it is 5 quarts right on. When I do an oil change, I add 5 Qts, run it a minute, shut it off and check it. Everytime, it is just below the full mark.
