Hello all - This is the same CR-V I'd done a fair bit of work on over the past number of weeks.

This is my son's wife's sister's vehicle. She wanted to learn a few auto maintenance skills, and did well.

She was in a hurry to leave to start a new job on the east coast, so unfortunately we didn't have time to repair all the stuff I found.

One thing I worry about is that the rubber vibration damper on the one front drive axle was really floppy. In retrospect, perhaps I should have secured it with plastic cable ties. It appeared to be a one-piece unit, so changing it would involve removing the drive axle and splitting it at the tripod joint. Ran out of time.

How important is this damper? I assume the factory wouldn't spend the money on it unless it were necessary. What happens if it fails completely and flies off?

Thanks in advance.

It's not very important. Many aftermarket axles don't have one.

What it does mostly is trap water and salt underneath and cause the axle to rust and break at that spot.
