Hi all,my neighbor owns a 1998 ford taurus se with the 24 valve duratec engine,i currently have her running mobil 1 10w30,it does not consume oil,and she runs a motorcraft fl-820 oil filter on it,however after 1000 miles the oil is very dark on the dipstick, could her motor require a autorx treatment,it uses 0 noticeable oil in 3k oil changes, just am concerned with the very dark oil. Through the oil fill hole the camshafts look very clean, sludge free, etc. Just am concerned by the excessivley dark oil after 1000 miles or so. Please advise oil gurus,ty

Change the PCV valve, clean the EGR valve. Do a used oil analysis at the 4000 mile point to make yourself feel much better. It'll make your neighbor feel better, too.

This is a recent switchover to M1, I assume? If so, then an early oil-change AND FILTER CHANGE may be justified since the M1 is probably cleaning the internals up a bit.

By all means change the PCV and other filters, as already suggested.

well,it's been running pennzoil synthetic 5w30 up until the 48,000 mile mark, and it's had 3 changes of mobil 1 10w30 motor oil so far,she has it changed by sullivan tire every 3k. Btw,where to find the green 0w30 german castrol,my autozone here doesn't carry it (cape cod,ma),mabye fuelrod would know since i noticed he's in the same area as me

. Ty for the input,it's been kept in good shape, there is no pcv valve on the 24 valve duratec motor,i think it is a ccv motor.
