so im gonna flush out the dexcool, im nearing 150,000 miles and i know the stuff flat out is just bad news, so im gonna refill with some new coolant. i picked up some Prestone extended life antifreeze, because i noticed that it was DexCool approved (im sure ill probably have some of the old coolant left after the flush, so i want this stuff to mix well with the old coolant). is this stuff just basically the same as dexcool though? i dont know if the "dexcool approved" badge means its compatible where dexcool is factory spec'd, or just another kind of dexcool. someone tell me please, because if it is, ill return it and exchange for something else

im not sure... however, it lists the dexcool license # DC-002 on the back of the jug, so thats not a good sign... it might really just be dexcool. i do have some Peak basic green coolant, would that be safe to use with trace amounts of dexcool left after the flush?

coolant looks a bit dirty, plus i've only had the car for a year and i have no idea how the previous owner(s) maintained the car. since this car doesn't have coolant running through the plastic intake that i have, a may just run the prestone stuff and keep a factory spec fluid in there (hasn't let me down so far). then again i hear alot of bad things about dexcool so i figured i would switch to the green stuff

That plain ol' green stuff is pretty difficult to find these days. I suggest that you go with G05. It's not AS difficult to find, and works quite well as a replacement for Dexcool.
