Hi guys, could any of you miata owners chime in?

I'm working on my grandpas 1992 miata, and doing the transmission fluid.

Ive heard the GL5 fluid doesnt like the synchros much, so I'm hunting for the GL4 stuff.

Do any of you use GL5 with good results? Its really easy to find....in fact, Ive got some castrol stuff on my shelf I could use! I just dont want to cause him any problems.

He's in his early 80's and just bought it!! I hope I'm like that down the road. I'm pretty happy for him, hes having a blast!

thanks,

I think the local Canadian tire has redline stuff, but not sure about the tranny fluid.

Its tough to find.

Redline MT90 or Amsoil MTG are your best bets for a GL4 75w90.

If you want a GL5, Redline 75w90NS or Motul gear 300 can be used.

If you want better cold shifting, you can thin them out with 25%-50% Redline MTL or Amsoil MTF to make a 75w85.

Most automakers also have GL4 or GL5 gear oils that can be used that can be sourced right from the dealerships parts department if you have the PN.
