I finished diagnosing my power steering leak today; after cleaning off the gear & pump and refilling the reservoir, I cranked the truck and saw fluid spewing out of the seal on the gearbox near the pittman arm. The front end shops I've talked to have all said that its best to go ahead and replace the gear, but the reviews on parts store reman units seem mixed (at best). Would it just be better to replace the seal on the existing box?

If it is original to the truck IMO i'm sure it is worn out. I would just replace the box.

A lot of times you have wear in the pitman shaft and needle bearings causing excessive play. Ck for lateral play, if it is OK, reseal, if not, reman box.
