I bought a 86 Chevy Sprint for the Demo Derby's next year...thing runs great! Now not so sure about destroying it? Engine clicks and clacks like there is no tomorrow. It is a replacement engine, from a junkyard I was told. This is not my car, but the video represents the sound the engine is making.

Should I still run 5w-30 or go with something thicker?

Congrats! I had one of these car during my early 90s college days...

You need to adjust the tappets on these engines. Thermal expansion on these alu engine blocks will cause the adjustments to go fairly easily too, so if you really want it to go quiet, you must consider doing it using hot-spec (cold spec + 3 thou).

Also: thermostat tends to go (bad) fairly frequently on them. When working properly, the temp gauge holds it's temp and the vent blows really hot air.

Good luck on it. I have some parts left behind for my car (sold during mid-90s after I graduated).
