I want a good oil where I don’t have to do any mixing … will Lucas oil 10w 40 conventional with high zink ( hot rod and classic) work or is another brand of oil recommended ?

Thanks in advance

There's nothing particularly unique or demanding about your application, so any modern oil will work well as long as it's got enough viscosity to maintain good oil pressure. The Lucas oil you mentioned will do well, but so would lots of others.

I know I need zink for this van wasn’t sure if the Lucas was too high in zink or not enough as this is my first older car

You don't need to stress about the zinc. Modern oils still have zinc and also have plenty of additional anti wear additives to protect the cam. If you're really concerned, you can use a heavy duty diesel oil like Mobil Delvac 1300 15w-40 or similar which will work well except maybe in really cold weather.

If I use the Lukas high zink will it hurt it or is it ok to have alot of zink ?

You don't need zinc, what you think you need is phosphorous, which is the AW component, combined with zinc to form ZDDP. Phosphorous is what was restricted for the energy conserving oils in xW-30 and lower starting with API SM.

I wouldn't run anything made by Lucas if you paid me. Their marketing of their hot garbage "Oil Stabilizer" products is appalling.

The 351W isn't an application that's overly hard on oil, and if you've got the factory broomstick cam, that applies doubly. I'd personally run M1 0W-40 in it (or Delvac 1 5W-40), but if that's out of the budget and you don't need the 5W-xx or 10W-xx Winter grade in your climate, I'd grab some Delvac or Rotella 15W-40.

If you think you need a high ZDDP oil, use valvoline VR1, or Mobil 1 15W50, don't use any additives, I'm sure someone will dig up that Lake Speed Jr video of him testing and finding out that those ZDDP additives are actually worse than not using them at all, many of those additives are reliant on an ester carrier that can chemically interact with other esters used in the motor oils they're mixed with and make the oil more corrosive.

Ok so let me make sure I understand … I don’t need high zink because it’s already in the oil? What would u guys put in it for oil if it was your van?

No idea what cam I have …. Previous owner said to make sure I use zink

If you’re not driving it during the winter/subzero temps, Rotella 15w-40. It has all the vitamins and minerals that that engine needs.

If you want a year-round oil, M1 0w-40.

Does it lope? Does the engine look hotrodded? If not, it's probably a stock cam or RV cam, which are quite mild. I run Delvac 1 5W-40 in the GT40 351W in our Supra (boat) which I'm sure probably has a less leisurely life than your van ;)

I would not personally use a full synthetic in that engine if it hasn't had it prior. You can say what you want about synthetic oil seel conditioners, when you change the thing that swells the seal your changing the composite - IMHO. I have seen plenty of old engines that started leaking when they used synthetic, and the answer is always, Oh it was old, bound to leak at some point. Not sure I agree.

I would probably use a 10W-30 Chevron Supreme, or even order the 10W-40 Havoline in the box. 15W-40 or equivalent semi syn would be good also. With a short OCI. IMHO.
