1929 GMC starts after sitting 80 years

I don't buy into it. After that many years, I wouldn't believe that crankshaft would even rotate.

The engine was not submerged in water. Engines even at the time period were semi sealed. The indicator the bearing were likely ok was the crankcase oil turn to gel. That would in some degree act as a bearing sealer protectant.
Sorta like all those sks wrapped in nasty wax paper and all the metal and moving parts caked in stinky grease to preserve them dating in the 1940’s.
There are also indicators if you look at the video of a few things ban-aided to get it started.

I say well done and real video (y)

Doesn't look staged to me. Lots of unnecessary stuff IMHO, like the MMO, then the motor honey, and the Royal Purple was just silly.

I grew up around stuff of this vintage, though it was pretty much all in boats. Getting them going after sitting for how knows long (it's clear he really doesn't know how long it has sat) takes some time consuming work, but since they are so simple, it's not overly difficult.

Weird thing for me was that he got the starter working, but then continued to crank it by hand. Also, he was spinning it over one way with the fan, then the other way with the ratchet...

My approach would have been diesel in the cylinders and pan for a few days to let it soak. Drain, put in some SAE 30 (we usually had Valvoline or Castrol). Take the carb off, clean it (they are stupidly simple) and rig up a proper fuel source. Ignition would have been new plugs like he did, with some rigged up wires, like he did, and a known good coil.

It smoked about as bad as I expected it to with all the crap he dumped down the cylinders.

Pretty neat video, thanks for the share!

He gets it to start after the 3rd or 4th crank with a ratchet and it stays running after a couple more? Without even working the throttle? That never happens even on 60's car sitting a few months.

I assume there was a lot more farting around with it before that video sequence, he even alludes to that being the case. He was also trying to start it on brake kleen for ages there too. I've used propane, which works too.
