Awesome mdtaylor!
By any chance do you know what the bottle date was on the pending UO'sA? Long shot I know.

Reason being, I'm trying to figure out (on the cheap and easy LOL) what kind of PUP's in mine right now.

Per chance do you or anyone know as of which bottle date they presumably reduced their calcium from 2500 to what what might be required to meet SN+??

It's been discussed before, but the bottling date seems to have occurred recently (within the past 2-3 months). Here's a topic that discussed it recently:

Thanks. It will be interesting to see the formula change. Keep in mind that there are other aspect of motor oil that won't be revealed in a consumer-grade oil analysis. To describe what I mean, the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum has had the same additive package as the Pennzoil Ultra (pre-Pure Plus labeling), but the 2013 Ultra is not the same oil as the 2018 Ultra Platinum, despite elemental analysis being almost identical:

Also, here's some clarifications on SN+:

Thanks guy1- DOH! Missed that.
I see that my PUPs bottling (jugging?) date was Sept 27 2018.

Quick update on the Ford spec. I contacted Pennzoil asking about the B1 spec and if the Ultra Platinum 5w-30 met this spec or if they planned to in the future. This was the reply.

Quote
The Pennzoil Ultra Platinum does not meet this Ford spec and at this time there is no communication stating it will be. Pennzoil Gold And Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 currently meet and exceed this specification.

So despite the SN Plus rating, it doesn't (and won't) meet Ford's new specification they changed to when they switched to SN Plus...

Based on what Shell said, it sounds like the new Ford -B1 spec covers more than what SN Plus covers. The Motorcraft video I posted earlier made it sound like the Ford -B1 spec was to just address LSPI.

Did PUP meet the Ford -A spec? If not, then I could see why it won't meet the -B1 spec either, even though it's SN Plus.

So I did some more research based on this thread:
https://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/5020378/

Which was started on a Feb 22, 2019 date.

I went directly to API's licensing site and looked up Ultra Platinum:
https://engineoil.api.org/Directory/EolcsProductResults?accountId=-1&brandName=ultra platinum

And Pennzoil's License:
https://engineoil.api.org/Directory/EolcsResultsDetail?companyId=10217

Conclusion: Ultra Platinum SN+ began hitting store shelves by Feb 22nd, 2019 (so less than 2 weeks ago). Technically, they're able to display the label starting on Feb 23rd, 2019, but some guy at Walmart probably didn't care and put it on the shelf anyway. From what I've seen, bottling date typically precede shelf date by about 2 months for oil that sells often (factoring time for packaging, transportation, and then stocking it on the shelves).

I'm pretty sure PUP did meet the -A spec, even when it wasn't SN Plus yet, though I could be mistaken about that. The SN Plus PUP definitely meets the -A spec according to the bottle in my photo.

But yeah, I agree with your conclusion that there appears to be something more to the -B1 spec than just LSPI protection on level with SN Plus.

Thanks! Interesting info.

I actually didn't even notice that on the bottle. When did they switch to the -B1 spec? My '18 F150 2.7EB still shows the -A spec in its manual. I also have no reason to believe Pennzoil (and every other manufacturer) will not be listing the -B1 spec in the near future.

Ford go running after the oil truck, clipboard in hand, after the rollout was finished, like the CK-4 rollout, screaming, "Wait, what about our new spec?!"

At least when Chrysler louses up an oil specification, the Shell catalogue is large enough they can usually find some suitable replacement right off the shelf.
