17 inch tires and wheels for 96 Chevy truck

Greetings and good evening fellow Bitogers.

A really quick tire and wheel question.

On another post, I shared how I have been "gifted" with a 1996 Chevy half ton pick up truck. Said truck has sat for four years and in that four year period of time the tires have rotted beyond usefulness.

It just so happens that I have four 17 inch tires that are practically new which I purchased at an auction about two years ago.

The truck currently has 235/75/15 inch tires on it and I'm thinking of finding some 17 inch wheels so I can use these 17 inch tires rather than buying new 15 inch tires.

My question therefore is this - did Chevrolet ever make a 17 inch wheel with a five on five bolt pattern that I could pick up at a junk yard or will I have to find an after market wheel to use these tires?

If they did make such a wheel, what year of vehicles should I be looking for?

My 2005 GMC 1500 4x4 came with 17" tires, but I think they were a six lug pattern.

07+ Jeep Wranglers and 1999 Grand Cherokees use that bolt pattern. 17'' wheels in that size are pretty common.

I did a quick look in Tire Guides and they say GM quit using a 5 X 127mm bolt pattern shortly after your truck was built. They adopted 17" much later than that.

Also, GM cars used a different bolt pattern than trucks - so even though they had 17" wheels, they won't fit your truck.

So best guess: No, the Junkyard isn't going to have any 17" wheels to fit.

 

[Traction]

1994-1996 Impala SS used a 17 X 8.5 in. wheel with that bolt pattern. Use to see them on older chevy trucks.

Good catch, Traction. Apparently that was the only time GM used that on a car.
