Incredible sad or incredibly fortunate the Amsoil 15W-40 wasn't tested. I have been using this oil for years and not only is it a bargain, wear numbers are superb and works great at 10°F.

Here Pabs, don't complain about me never giving you verifiable data !

This is dated a bit but all I have. circa, 2000

Amsoil 15w-40 "AME"

2938/13329/3.98

An excellent cold weather oil. Many of my customers run this oil year round in PCMO applications for low wear and good pumpability.

In another thread, you break it down in simple laymen terms.. like "the lower the number, the better."

Do you think you can break it down that way in these threads also? A simple "the lower the number, the better the result" or "the higher the number, the better the result" in these types of threads would really help new people like me understand the comparison...

On this thread the lower the better for the first two columns and the higher the better in the third column.

Ahh.. excellent, thank you..

One more question.. Is the "SAE" numbers:

Sae 7000 60,000 3.7

The manufactor's required, or the average, or what is the purpose of these numbers?

Do you think you could post in the other thread the same deal here? higher, lower, = better? I really appreciate the information.

I don't get it. Throughout this board, people consistently rant and rave about Delvac and Delo being the "better" HDEOs. Yet here, their numbers look average.

What is the significance of these test numbers in relation to the oils overall quality?

The best thing to go by are the results of used oil analyses. While these are good test results from Schaeffer, and I use Schaeffer, no one factor of new oil tells which is better.

Aren't we comparing a synthetic blend against a bunch of dinos here or is supreme 7000 not a syn blend? Seems like a pretty easy test for a syn blend to win here. Why don't we throw some 15w-40 syns/syn blends in and see what happens?

Apples vs. oranges?

What exactly does this set of three numbers represent?

Royal Purple, Castrol Syntec, and maybe one of the Valvolines are full synthetic. Just being made from synthetic base stock does not guarantee better performance.
