163k on the clock. Blue OEM Subaru filter. Consumes oil, this run consumed about 3qts and included high speed round trip of 2,000 miles into the mountains of Tennessee. Techron in the tank during this change.

Everything looks pretty good but the 3 quarts of consumed oil another report that makes me glad I didn't buy that 2017 Subaru Forester.

Try a different brand like Valvoline or Castrol to see it makes a difference in consumption . Lighten up on gas pedal if you’ve been driving it hard.

From what I read, Subaru had the oil consumption problems fixed by the 2017 model year. My wife has a 2018 and it doesn't burn oil. We also have a 2004 that burns 1 qt every 3,000 miles, and always has since it was new.

Exchange it for 5W-40. That engine is speced for 20 Wt. High mileage Boxers sometimes consume oil at high speed. My '08 did. I switched to 40 wt and that was the end of the story. My FB20 and FA 20 were redlined frequently during breakin. Neither uses measurable oil.

The FB20 engine does not use oil. Overall it seems to be a better engine than the 2.5.
