118F outside and battery maintainers

Charging any battery at high temps will ruin it. Heating up acid only makes it more corrosive.

I have to bring my EGO 56v and Greenworks 40v batteries in the house and put a fan on them to recharge when it's in the 90Fs. The EGO 56v was starting to stall and let out the electric smell so I quit the other day after only about a half hours use. Still had half a charge showing. Took two hours to cool off in the AC and a fan on it.

You realize that the EGO is Li-ion, and contains no acid, right? The carbonate hydrocarbon will decompose and not be condensible. The separator melts around 110C.

yes. I was just pointing out charging any battery at highs temps is detrimental.

That is true, however your alternator does exactly that everytime your engine is running at operating temperature, and is heating your battery under the same hood in the process.

Which can be a lot in slow city traffic in the Summer.

It's why I like to put my batteries in the trunk.

True and that ain't good for it. Op wants to do something good compared to the neutral position of doing nothing at all.

+1
It's not a secret that batteries have a shorter life in the hotter parts of the country.
