I just bought some Amsoil ASL 5w-30 for my car. This car is my track / weekend car, it probably sees about 20 miles a week. When I do run it, I pull to 8,000 RPM. I've been running valvoline and changing oil every 2-3 months. I know amsoil recommends 1 year OCI with this oil, will that be fine for me too? What oil filter is recommended with that long of an OCI? I have some Hamp Synergy filters. (similar to Honda S2000 oil filter)

Thanks!

As long as the oil gets sufficiently warm every cycle, I don't see why you couldn't run that stuff a year or more. 20 miles/week * 52 weeks/year = ~1000 miles/year, I personally would leave that oil in for 4 or 5 years before replacement.

Check out CM oil filters at Canton Racing Products, they claim 8 micron filtering and 10,000 street miles before the replaceable filter element is changed. I use it on my F150, it's expensive, but may pay off in the long run. You may want to do 1-year UOAs if you leave that oil in for that long, just for peace of mind.

I have a 2002 Firebird LS1 and use the ATM 10W-30, change oil once per year which is averaging around 7000 miles more or less. I use the Amsoil/Hastings filter SDF32.

No drag racing though, thats going to be subjecting the oil to more stress than normal driving would. Do you use car year round? I might consider going 6 months and do an analysis to see if its holding up to 8g runs. If so leave it in for the year.
