Hi All,
Well we've got a new daily mule for our little family..A 2019 Ford Focus St Line Wagon...think it will suit us well and it comes with the 3cyl turbo petrol..the factory spec is WSS-M2C948-B a bit difficult to find in Aus but there's a few options..whats interesting is that that the manual also says that for top ups they want an oil 5w 20 meeting a5/b5-08...but they don't exist right?

A5/B5-08 has been superceded a few times now. Back then acea allowed for less TBN in their full-saps oils (down to 8 vs 10 later on). I suspect Ford wants you to use a 5W20 oil with TBN between 8 and 10.

If you need to top off between changes (presumeably at the dealer until warranty runs out), I wouldn't worry too much about which acea rating it meets, just that it does have one.

Since the year suffix is not meant to be used on labels there's no way of knowing; the expectation is that if you put an ACEA claim on your label it must meet the latest available version, with a 12-month overlap allowance. It is remiss of Ford to put a year demand in there, especially such an old one for the year of the car. All updated ACEA versions are backward-compatible though so any current A5/B5 will cover the older version (and newer versions are usually tougher anyway).

Yeah ok, but I thought that you coudn't actually get a 5w 20 that meets a5/b5 due to the hths limits of the spec? So Ford are asking for something that doesn't exist? What am I missing?

I’ve been doing some searching and it appears that Australia isn’t big on 5W20 oils. Your selection is very limited. You may have to get it at your Ford dealership. Valvoline does make an oil that meets your specifications however, it may be hard to find.
