I tend to use whatever 5/10w30 I find on sale. Usually Valvoline.Based on your OP, keep using whatever oil you've been using.

10W20??
Do you mean 10W30 or maybe 5W20? Unless you made it yourself, which you have the ability.
Anyway, the Pathfinder is a good car. I like them.
M1 ESP 5w-30 also has HTHS 3.5 and meets all the same Euro specs. So is there something specific about the 0w-30 vs 5w-30 which was likely the OEM spec? Wouldn't the 0w-30 have more VII which might lead to earlier shear. Honest question - I have 2 @ VQ40's. Always ran 5w30 so just asking.Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 would likely be a better oil for the VQ.... Higher HTHS 3.5 and it meets Porsche C30 and MB 229.5 which are way tougher specs to meet vs API SP.
Impressive on that CVT. What year was the Altima and did you do regular fluid changes on the CVT?My car ran to 365,000 miles on the motor. It did great. Even the CVT made it that far until finally giving up.
I had a '01 Maxima GLE, '03 Maxima SE, '05 Maxima SE and a '13 Maxima.Was wondering what everyone's opinion was on using Mobil 1 AFE 0W30 in a 2000 Maxima with 230k miles ?
I see no need for the M1 0W30. I like your thinking on the 10W30. I would want to use the warmest Winter rating possible unless we are talking specialised oils. Was wondering what everyone's opinion was on using Mobil 1 AFE 0W30 in a 2000 Maxima with 230k miles ? It doesn't leak or burn any measurable amount of oil between changes on 5w30.
Driving conditions are 70/30 city/hwy with spirited acceleration.
Please move if I posted in wrong area.
I live in West TN.
Chain longevity is a concern of mine.
I've decided to go with a euro spec oil for the approvals it has.M1 AFE 0W30, 4300 mi, 03 Civic EX
So my Civic has had some work done in the past 10k miles. Head gasket at 158k and crank seal and oil pan gasket at 164k. This oil was put in shortly after 164k. I expected silicon to be high from the work at 164k, and it was. Iron is still high from the HG change, but it's going down...bobistheoilguy.com
Significant Viscosity loss is a common issue with the AFE 0W30. It would not be my first choice for numerous reasons.
I wouldn’t get too fixated on approvals that are not relevant to your application, however, the Euro 0W30’s are likely to be significantly more “stout” than AFE 0W30.I've decided to go with a euro spec oil for the approvals it has.
I went with QS 5w40. I know it not the correct spec but surely is better than what existed when the car was new.I wouldn’t get too fixated on approvals that are not relevant to your application, however, the Euro 0W30’s are likely to be significantly more “stout” than AFE 0W30.
You did good...I went with QS 5w40. I know it not the correct spec but surely is better than what existed when the car was new.
The same car in Australia, Nissan Maxima with 3.0 Litre VQ30 V6 Eng. (1999-2003), the approved oil is 5W30, 10W30, 10W40 or 15W40.I went with QS 5w40. I know it not the correct spec but surely is better than what existed when the car was new.
Nice choiceI went with QS 5w40. I know it not the correct spec but surely is better than what existed when the car was new.
For 4-6k even the cheapest "dino" (actually a syn blend) will be more than enough
Castrol 0w30 A3/B4 or the 5w30 A3/B4 would be great for your Maxima.
Another good choice is Rotella T6 5w30
That said, there is nothing wrong with M1 AFE 0w30.
For the filter, use either Wix XP/Napa Platinum, the Full 2-ONS001, this Nippon filter, or any Fram
If you go to Napa, get 3 filters at the same time to get 20% off.
Hello from Lexington, TN.Nice choice
by the way, greetings from Dixon, Tennessee. I am from Memphis originally.
Keep doing that. Seems like it's done just fine for you and reality is, that engine ain't picky about the oil it has dumped in it.I tend to use whatever 5/10w30 I find on sale. Usually Valvoline.
Love seeing information like this. There are pundits that will argue "we get a different engine in the US" thoughThe same car in Australia, Nissan Maxima with 3.0 Litre VQ30 V6 Eng. (1999-2003), the approved oil is 5W30, 10W30, 10W40 or 15W40.
The engines are different. In Australia there's runs upside down.Love seeing information like this. There are pundits that will argue "we get a different engine in the US" though
Yes, 10W20 which I make myself.10W20??

Commercially, I believe HPL has it as well.
