0W-30 or 0W-40 Esso XD in a toyota 22RE?

I am going to start getting oil for my 1973 Jeep and have decided to try UFA polar plus (Esso XD) 0W-30or40 depending on if i could use it in my 86 toyota truck with a 22RE. I ask this because when i searched on the Amsoil site they reccommended the european syn 5W-40 so i am hoping that the 0W-40 would do the trick. Then i could buy it by the pail as opposed to 5L jugs.

The truck has 260,000KM and it will be getting Auto-Rx'd in the spring. I have been running Max life 5W-30 but want something that will handle the cold better for both trucks.

I would be hesitant to use a PAO (Group IV) based synthetic like XD-3 (or the Polar) in a vehicle that is 15 years old or more. I think the chances these PAO based motor oils will cause leaks in the seals is high on older engines.

I would look for a Group III based synthetic like Petro-canada, which makes a 0W-30 which is a GIII based (easier on old seals). At the bulk Petro-canada truck stations here in Edmonton, it should be a reasonable price/liter (probably $6-7 liter).

Wal-mart also has a Tech 2000 (or Supertech) 0W-30 which I think is made by Petro-canada (making it also a Group III based oil).
